The Longest Journey on sooloesitys ja runollinen matka kohti itsensä löytämistä. Performanssitaiteilija Ignacio Pérez Pérez on ottanut työnsä lähtökohdaksi isältään saamansa vesiputousta esittävän postikortin.

Esityksen nimi on saanut inspiraationsa Moshe Benarrochin runosta: “Pisin matka / on saapuminen sinne / missä olet”.

Ignacio Pérez Pérez on Suomessa asuva venezuelalainen, nomadinen kuvataiteilija.

The Longest Journey is a a poetical voyage of self discovery. Performance artist Ignacio Pérez Pérez takes a postcard of a waterfall he received from is father as the starting point of the journey. The postcard serves as a portal, taking us through intimate rituals of passage, migration, crossing borders, transmigration, entering other worlds inside this one.

The performance takes place in the foyer of Studio Pasila and on the street in front of it. It applies several different artistic media: installation, painting, photography and performance art. The title of this performance was inspired by the verses of a poem by Moshe Benarroch: “The longest journey / is arriving at the place / where you are”.

Ignacio Pérez Pérez is a Finland-based visual nomad from Venezuela, who lives and works in Helsinki, Finland. He explores phenomenal reality as a long journey to arrive at where we are now. He creates experiences of ritualistic playfulness and worldly contemplation to observe and encounter the otherness and its permanent state of transformation in the realm of everyday life. His practice crosses diverse fields, such as performance art, walking, street photography and networking.

Stage for Contemporary Performance is a pilot project implemented in studio Pasila during 2022 and 2023. The objective of the project is to include different forms of contemporary performance in the Helsinki City Theatre’s seasonal programme. The activities of the Stage for Contemporary Performance are divided into two parts: a programme of visiting performances and premieres which are created during residency periods.
